Because of a suspicious vehicle on the stadium forecourt, the 81,365 spectators of the Bundesliga top game between Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen (1:0) were not allowed to leave the stadium immediately following the final whistle. In the arena on Saturday evening, from five minutes before the end of the game, it was announced several times that “due to a police operation outside the stadium” all fans must remain in their seats.

“A suspicious vehicle with a running engine was found in the area of ​​parking lot E3,” tweeted the Dortmund police shortly followingwards: “Since it cannot be ruled out that this vehicle might pose a threat, all stadium visitors are asked not to close the stadium following the end of the game leaving.” The first “measures to eliminate the dangerous situation” are being taken. The spectators are not allowed to leave the stadium “so that the police measures can be carried out undisturbed.”

A partial all-clear was finally given around 9 p.m. “We would like to inform you that you can now leave the stadium in an orderly manner,” Borussia Dortmund told its fans via various channels. A few minutes later, the North Rhine-Westphalian police finally gave the green light: “As part of the police investigation, we were able to clarify that the vehicle posed no danger. The engine was running due to a technical defect.»
