For its 8th edition, which will be held from August 29 to September 3 in Geneva, the Alternatiba Festival has invited two specialists in climate change. Principal author of the latest IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report, Professor Julia Steinberger from the University of Lausanne will speak at the opening conference of the event, with Rob Hopkins, initiator of the transition cities movement.
At Uni Mail, the duo of experts will dialogue with two representatives of the “conventional” economy, the festival organizers said on Saturday. The speakers will thus be able to discuss the points of convergence which exist in their vision of the future as well as their divergences around the question of the climate.
Alternatiba will also be an opportunity for 190 organizations active in favor of ecological transition, the fight once morest climate change and social justice, to present themselves to the public at the Parc des Bastions. Stands and entertainment will await visitors. The event is completely free. Concerts will be organized in the evening.
In addition to these activities, the festival also serves as a place for reflection and exchanges, with conferences, round tables and the screening of films on the theme of transition. Major issues such as accessibility to local food, green jobs, mobility, the role of finance, will be discussed.
The Alternatiba Léman Festival is organized by the Alternatiba Léman Association, a citizen movement for the climate emergency. The event aims to promote all local initiatives that contribute to the reduction of climate change, by implementing concrete solutions.
