Basically, the Windows 10 and Windows 11 desktop come with certain icons. Natively both OS offer a set of default system icons.
One of the most popular is probably the recycle bin. It is possible to have other icons such as “This PC”, “Network” or even its user folder. Whether we are talking regarding Windows 10 or Windows 11, a function allows you to customize this little world, that is to say to choose the icons which should or should not appear on the desktop.
This option, called “Desktop icon settings” is not easy to find because it is a holdover from older versions of Windows. However, it is useful in certain situations. For example, it may happen that the Recycle Bin icon disappears. It is also practical to be able to access your user file directly from the desktop.

The window that appears displays options for adding or removing desktop icons.
You can also change the style by clicking on the “change icon” option. An option to restore defaults while you can disallow themes from changing desktop icons.
