The Chinese government announced unspecified sanctions on the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi for her visit to Taiwan. In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the official had ignored Beijing’s concerns regarding Taipei.
Thus, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that China’s military exercises, developed by Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, represent a “significant escalation” and urged Beijing to stop the maneuvers.

Likewise, the Japanese Administration denounced that five Chinese missiles fell into the waters of its economic zone.
Given the growing tension, other international actors have spoken out, as is the case with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who urged calm regarding the situation between China and Taiwan.
