From Software CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki, who made the most of this year with ‘The Elden Ring’, will receive a special prize at the CEDEC Awards 2022.
The Computer Entertainment Association (CESA), the organizer of Japan’s largest developer conference CEDEC, has nominated Hidetaka Miyazaki, CEO of From Software, as a special prize at the Cedec Awards 2022. The special award is given to those who have contributed to the development and development of the game industry.
CESA explained why CEO Miyazaki won the award, saying that, starting with Demon’s Souls, he attracted game fans through consistent game design and high-level gameplay. In addition, he added that the latest work, Elden Ring, was a great success and had a huge impact on the industry by attracting attention not only from game fans but also from developers.
Hidetaka Miyazaki joined From Software in 2004 and participated in the production of the Armored Core series. In particular, CEO Miyazaki received this award once once more following the Golden Joystick Award 2018, which is considered one of the major global awards, proving his influence on the industry as a whole.
At the 2008 Sedec Awards, where the first awards ceremony was held, Shigeru Miyamoto, who led the era of Nintendo’s success, received the first special award. Afterwards, from Final Fantasy 1 of the Final Fantasy series until leaving Square, Hironobu Sakaguchi, who oversaw the production of numerous series, Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Great Brawl series, Satoshi Tajiri, who created and raised Pokémon, and Tsunekatsu Ishihara and Kou Shibusawa. Japanese developers who left significant footprints in game history, such as Yoichi Erikawa, who made a mark in the history of historical simulation genres such as Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga’s Ambition, and Hideo Kojima, who is more suited to the name of director, have been named as winners of the Special Award. In addition, Mark Cerny, who led development as a PlayStation hardware designer from the PS4 days to the PS5, also received a special award for 2021.
The Game/Computer Developer Conference, first held in 1999, has grown to become the largest developer conference in Japan by expanding its scale every year since then. In 2008, the Sedec Awards, which were made through the votes of game developers, were also awarded in various game development categories. This year’s Sedec will be held for three days from August 23rd to 25th.
