Suspects of model sexual assault in South Africa have been caught by residents and handed over to police. Of the more than 100 suspects, only 20 were caught by the locals.
Local media, including South Africa’s Daily Maverick, reported on the 4th that residents were angry at the gang rape of models in an abandoned mine in Krugersdorf, west of Johannesburg, on the 28th (local time), and that residents were active in arresting the suspect.
Residents stripped and beat the suspects and held them until the police arrived, who arrested them in front of the residents.
Previously, the suspects are accused of gang-raping eight models who had gathered to shoot a music video with an abandoned mine in the background, and taking the equipment and belongings of the filming staff and running away. The female model was between 18 and 35 years old, and the suspects fled the scene following stripping their male staff.
Police arrested 104 people as suspects in the case, most of whom were Jadomas (illegal miners). During the arrest, a gunfight broke out and one person was killed.
According to reports, local residents have called for an investigation by the police, claiming that Jajamasu is engaged in criminal activities. However, the police did not take any action, and this time the residents actively helped the police to arrest the suspect.
Police are planning to conduct genetic (DNA) tests on these suspects soon to identify suspects in the sexual assault case.
Shortly following the incident, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, “The rapist has no place in our society.” .
