Hänni received a lot of support on social media.
Swiss women’s football boss Tatjana Hänni published a hate letter once morest women in football addressed to her on Thursday. “First day back in the office,” Hänni wrote on Twitter and shared the letter anonymously.
In the letter there were numerous comments below the waistline. The writer used sexist, homophobic, and misogynist stereotypes. In the meantime, the writing has also been picked up by the international media. Around 1,500 people commented on Hänni’s post on Twitter. Everyone agrees: the letter is stunned.
On Friday, Hänni wrote on Twitter: “By publishing this letter, I wanted to further sensitize the public and show that respect and tolerance are still too often trampled on.” The Swiss Football Association keeps receiving such letters in which the players, but also the players, are “humiliated and insulted”. Hänni continues: “These statements are disrespectful, mean and hurtful.” When the letter was published, she received good news. “I received a lot of encouraging feedback. Thanks a lot for this.”
The former international, coach and Fifa official has long campaigned for women in football. Before the European Championships in England, the equality of bonuses for Swiss national players was announced.
