Barcelona President Joan Laporta spoke at the press conference held on Friday in order to officially introduce the veteran Polish star, Robert Lewandowski, to the media and the fans of the Catalan team, regarding a number of important topics, which he set as a plan for the future of Barcelona.
Joan Laporta said: “I would like to thank everyone who worked on completing the Lewandowski deal, today is evidence of a new start full of success for FC Barcelona. We are fighting to get the team back on the right path, we have worked hard, to register all the players, and we are waiting for the League’s response. Spanish”.
He continued, “I respect Bayern Munich a lot, but the issue of Lewandowski’s number is that we gave him the number 9, which was carried by Memphis Depay, and it is something that belongs to Barcelona only, and the Dutch striker has nothing to do with that, whether he is close to leaving or staying with us.”
He continued, “We worked hard to complete the Lewandowski deal, following long talks with Bayern Munich, and we conducted many negotiations via video technology, and did everything to get Robert, following we explained to him our project in Barcelona.”
He added, “Lewandowski chose Barcelona, despite the difficulty of the matter, due to the entry of some teams to the deal line, but in the end he understood the situation of Barca, and showed us that he wanted to come to us, and the deal was finalized because of his insistence on signing with us.”
As for the Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, he said: “I want to show what I have on the field, and I am very happy with the presentation ceremony and with the fans who attended. Barcelona is not living its best moments, but Laporta told me regarding the club’s future project.”
Lewandowski concluded his speech, “I spoke with coach Xavi, and I quickly understood his idea, and what he wanted me to do with Barcelona, and following a few minutes I felt that I wanted to work with him, so I will try to do my best with the team in the new season.”
