After the age of 50, the heart becomes more susceptible to a range of diseases, especially if a person leads an unhealthy lifestyle, such as excessive fatty foods and lack of movement.

Tips to maintain a healthy heart following 50
1- Eat a healthy diet
After the age of 50, the heart needs to follow a healthy diet, which includes foods that help promote its health and reduce the risk of disease, such as berries, salmon, mackerel, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, oats, beans and nuts.

2- Adjust the amount of salt
The recommended dose of sodium, which is regarding 500 milligrams per day, must be adhered to, because consuming it at a rate in excess of that may pose a significant risk to heart health, as it leads to high blood pressure, fluid retention in the body and increased chances of heart attack and stroke.

3- Doing sports
Sports play a big role in regulating the heartbeat, controlling blood pressure and stimulating blood circulation, so the elderly should regularly exercise daily for at least 30 minutes.

4- Avoid smoking
Smoking is one of the wrong habits that it is necessary to quit at the age of fifty, because it causes a rise in harmful cholesterol in the blood, which leads to hardening and blockage of the arteries.
The same goes for secondhand smoke, so it’s best to stay away from smokers as much as possible.
5- Good sleep
The safety of the heart following the age of fifty is related to the number of hours of sleep that a person gets each night, which requires getting enough rest daily, taking into account the cessation of stimulant drinks in the evening, to avoid feeling insomnia.
