Koch Media changes its name to Plaion, and redefines its brand

Koch Media is a thing of the past! The German company has changed its name to become Plaion – subtle pun on English “ play on“. Founded almost thirty years ago, the group was bought by THQ Nordic (since Embracer) in 2018 for $150 million; with more than 2,300 employees around the world, Plaion is clearly a titan of the video game industry.

Its activities include the publishing and development of games (via various studios) but also press relations. Klemens Kundratitzthe co-founder and current CEO of the group, details his vision for the future: “ Our new name allows us to leverage our rich history as a publishing partner, but also our remarkable and ever-growing international network of development studios and creative people. All this in order to continue to offer a high quality service to our partners, to highlight our ambition as a global player in the entertainment industry, but also to reinvent ourselves. Our wish is to be able to inspire our teams and partners, in order to enable them to reach their full potential.« .

In itself, this news will not change much for most gamers: Koch Media, as a brand, mainly managed the aspect B2B of the group. This names like Deep Silver who were better known to the general public. Nevertheless, this new direction taken by Plaion is interesting; we therefore hope that during the next few years, this Embracer property will be able to regale us with good news and excellent games!
