Uneca (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa), in partnership with betacube, is launching the call for applications for the tech african women program. Over the past five years, the number of start- up founded and led by women has increased significantly in Africa. To support them, women startups in the ideation phase from Ethiopia, Senegal, Tanzania and Tunisia are invited to apply for the Tech African women (TAW) program. The TAW (Tech African Women) program aims to support women entrepreneurs in developing their skills in order to create tech startups with great potential for success, to accelerate the transformation of project ideas into viable business models. and develop opportunities between different African ecosystems. TAW is aimed at women with tech projects and offers them the opportunity to acquire new entrepreneurial skills, to establish partnerships with other African entrepreneurs, to increase the visibility of companies at the regional level and to facilitate access to financing. The program offers solutions that meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting women entrepreneurs who wish to play a key role in the evolution of the continent, particularly through their impact startups. It runs from August to December 2022 and consists of three main phases. A three-day bootcamp will be held in Tunisia, Senegal, Ethiopia and Tanzania in partnership with local ecosystem actors. The winning team from each bootcamp will win a $2,000 prize and a two-month, 100% online incubation program accessible to the two winning startups from each country The official ceremony will be held in Rwanda where the eight startups will be invited to pitcher to win the program’s final prize: $7,000 prize for the best startup. Throughout the incubation program, teams will have access to a network of developers and designers who will develop their MVPs for free, work closely with experts in marketing, finance and attend webinars, tailored, facilitated by international trainers. Connections with potential investors and business partners will be facilitated thanks to the local and international network of Betacube, which is a venture builder created in 2019 and which co-develops tech startups with exceptional founders.
