Golden era of Indian football to silver screen; Hollywood-beating VFX | Indian football gets a touch of Hollywood, Maidaan

The makers of the Bollywood movie Maidan, which tells the story of the golden era of Indian football, will hit the theaters by the end of the year. The unforgettable period of Indian football is told through the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, who is hailed as the architect of Indian football.

The period from 1951 to 1962 was the golden age of Indian football. In 1951, Indian football started its triumphant journey under the supervision of Rahim by winning the football title in the Asian Games held in New Delhi. India went on to win the four-nation series. He finished fourth in football in the 1956 Olympics. In 1962, Rahim was the leader of Indian football when India won gold in the Asian Games held in Jakarta.

He brought Indian football to the pinnacle of success in coaching and managerial roles. The crew has the compulsion to tell this unforgettable era of Indian football in its entirety. Therefore, the era is recreated with the help of the world’s leading visual effects studio. Double Negative (DNEG) Studio is preparing the VFX for the film. The studio won Best Visual Effects at the 2022 Academy Awards for Dune (2021).

The upcoming film in Bollywood is titled Maidan. Keerthy Suresh is playing the female lead in the Ajay Devgn starrer. Directed by Badai Ho director Amit Ravindernath Sharma. Produced by Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta.

The theme of the movie is the Indian football of the 50s-60s. The VFX team is hard at work recreating those decades. The film was shot in Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. As part of post production, some old stadiums and the era are being prepared now. It is reported that it will take two months to complete the polishing work.

The makers are hoping to release the film by the end of this year. “We aim to make Maidan one of the most authentic and iconic sports films. We want to recreate the golden era of Indian football,” said Boney Kapoor.
