Switzerland starts with victory in the European Championship qualifiers
The Swiss men’s national volleyball team got off to an excellent start in the three-week qualification for the 2023 European Championship.
Coach Mario Motta’s team beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-1 away following losing the starting set (23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19).
After a difficult initial phase, the Swiss are continuously improving. In the last two sets they are the better team even without their injured captain Jovan Djokic.
The Swiss continue on Sunday in Schönenwerd once morest Romania, who beat Albania 3-0 in the other game of the group. Switzerland left both the Romanians and the Albanians behind in qualifying for the last, narrowly missed EM 2021.
To qualify for the European Championship for the first time, Switzerland must win its group or be among the top five second-placed teams in the seven groups. (SDA)
