On Thursday, September 15th, the fourth and final season of the US series Atlanta celebrates its world premiere on FX. At the start there are two episodes from the ten-part final season. In Germany, the series will go online a few months later on Disney+, where you can currently stream the first three seasons.
The official trailer was released during the TCA Press Tour. A few weeks ago there was a rather surreal teaser trailer to get you in the mood.
Earn (Donald Glover), Alfred Miles aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) return to their hometown of Atlanta following their extensive European tour. But the question is whether they have changed or they are the changed ones. As always, little can be said regarding the actual plot, but the preview shows some pictures that make fans look forward to it. Earn reunites with the kids who once sold him lukewarm water, who appear to be trying to show off their rap talents. Earn and Van take their daughter for a walk in the woods. It goes to the recording studio. However, someone is also shot and we see a whiteface performance? So overall, the images are the usual WTF mix that defines Glover’s FX series.
At the TCA, Glover said last season’s theme was to have more fun. Because you can do anything with the time that’s left. He also believes he’s found the perfect song for the finale, which captures the soul of the format. As for Van, her complex feelings are still unresolved by the end of Season 3, so it will be an issue in Season 4, but it’s true for all characters.
In the third season, Paper Boi and Co were on a major European musical tour, which also left plenty of time for excursions. For example, to experiment with drugs, try out business (and fall flat on your face), or celebrate eccentric parties and meet strange people. In addition, however, there were also some digressions in which the main actors, if at all, were only marginal figures. Some socially relevant topics of modern America were brought into focus.
The third and fourth seasons were shot in one go. There was a four-year break between seasons two and three. In the USA, the new one went on the air from the end of March 2022. In Germany it followed at the end of June. So far, Donald Glover’s series has won five Emmys since 2016.
