Two people lost their lives on Wednesday August 3 in two water points located in the Charleroi region.
Firefighters from the Hainaut-East rescue zone were called around 4:30 p.m. for a disappearance at the Pircha water point, between Courcelles and Gosselies. Despite two hours of searching, however, the rescuers did not manage to find the body of the victim. “Emergency research had to be interrupted”says Michael Méan, the spokesman for the Hainaut-East rescue zone. They should resume tomorrow morning. “Here is the civil protection which will probably be required by justice.”
On returning, the firefighters were once more called for a similar intervention at the Gralex quarry, between Montignies-le-Tilleul and Mont-sur-Marchienne. “A 19-year-old boy had also dived from the top of an improvised diving board in the quarry and disappeared from the surface of the water. After 15 minutes of searching, we found his body. The rescuers tried to resuscitate him without result, he died.” The victim from Brussels was bathing with friends.
