The facts date from mid-July but have only surfaced for a few days on social networks. In a video, a stork can be seen landing near the lion enclosure at Planckendael Zoo. A few seconds later, the bird decides to cross the wire which separates it from the predator, which inevitably cost its life.
Spokesperson Amanda Wielemans comments on this: “It’s bad for the stork of course, but it’s the law of nature. Our lions remain wild animals. The hunting instinct is certainly still present. It happens every year.”
