In an information note, published this Wednesday by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), relating to the situation of the labor market in the second quarter of 2022, the employment sector recorded some progress for different sectors of the economic fabric. However, the HCP notes the inequality in the distribution of employment persists with the Casablanca-Settat region which comes first with 22.2% of workers, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (13.8%).
Between the second quarter of 2021 and the same period of 2022, the HCP notes that the national economy created 133,000 jobs, resulting from the creation of 285,000 in urban areas and a loss of 152,000 jobs in rural areas. , compared to a creation of 405,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2021 and a loss of 589,000 jobs in the second quarter of 2020.
On the regional situation of the labor market, five regions are home to 72.6% of all workers aged 15 and over. Casablanca-Settat comes in first position with 22.2% of assets, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (13.8%), Marrakech-Safi (13.3%), Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (12 %) and Fes-Meknes (11.3%).
In its note, the HCP indicates that four regions have activity rates above the national average (45.2%). These are the regions of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (51.2%), Casablanca-Settat (47.5%), Marrakech-Safi (46.5%) and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (45 .7%). On the other hand, the note specifies that the lowest rates are recorded in the regions of Souss-Massa (39.9%), Beni Mellal-Khénifra (41.7%) and Fez-Meknes (42%).
In addition, the HCP specifies that five regions concentrate nearly seven out of ten unemployed people (71.1%) at the national level. The Casablanca-Settat region comes first with 25.5%, followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (12.8%), Fès-Meknes (12.7%), Oriental (10.8%). ) and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (9.3%).
The highest unemployment rates are recorded in the southern regions (20.9%) and in the Eastern region (18.2%). With less acuity, two other regions exceed the national average (11.2%); namely Casablanca-Settat (12.8%) and Fez-Meknes (12.5%). On the other hand, the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Beni Mellal-Khenifra and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma recorded the lowest rates, respectively 6.5%, 8.7% and 8.7%.
