José Gregorio Hernández will not be the Minister of Justice in the Petro government

Days following information was leaked that Jose Gregory Hernandez was going to be the Minister of Justice in the incoming government of Gustavo Petro, it was the same former president of the Constitutional Court who stated that he will not accept the position due to his state of health and other commitments.

“I am very grateful to the president Gustavo Petro for having thought of my name for him Ministry of Justice. I have not accepted, although I would have wanted to, due to my current state of health and due to multiple academic and professional commitments, ”Hernandez said in a message on his Twitter account.

About a month and a half ago when Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez received their credentials as elected president and vice president of Colombia, respectively, Hernández He sent them a message and congratulated them on their victory in the second round.

“Culmination of a complex electoral process with the solemn delivery of credentials, by the CNE Colombia, President-elect Gustavo Petro and Vice-President-elect Francia Márquez. A historical democratic act. Congratulations and success, for the good of Colombia,” Hernández said at the time.

During his path in the world of politics, Hernández was presidential candidate for the 2006 electionsbut he retired to devote himself to his professional activity as a teacher.

Likewise, in 2002 he was vice-presidential formula of the liberal Horace Serpa in the elections that year.

Thus, it is expected that in the next few days the president-elect Gustavo Petrowho will take office this Sunday, August 7, confirm who will occupy the Ministry of Justice.

Among the ministers who have already been made official by Petro are: Iván Velásquez Gómez (Ministry of Defense), Alejandro Gaviria (Ministry of Education), Cecilia López (Ministry of Agriculture), Susana Muhamad (Ministry of Environment), Carolina Corcho (Ministry of Health ), José Antonio Ocampo (Minister of Finance) and Álvaro Leyva Durán (Minister of Foreign Affairs).
