Carmen Uranga, a 56-year-old nursing graduate, was treating a patient injured in a traffic accident at the Tamaca ambulatory, located in the north of Barquisimeto, when relatives of the four injured —two men and two women— arrived at the center of health and staged a fight. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 30 at 10:30 pm.

Two doctors and two other nurses were able to protect themselves when the violent people threw objects and hit each other with motorcycle helmets, among other blunt objects, but nurse Uranga, who has 21 years of service in this health center, put an intravenous line into the patient, and when he turned around, he received a blow to his right leg.

“For more than four years we have not had security personnel. Before there were some policemen who were there and made rounds, but never once more. Added to that is the darkness because we don’t have lighting, and this is a wolf’s mouth that lends itself to many things, like that brawl on Saturday, ”he said by telephone to the whistle the nurse Uranga.

A few meters from the outpatient clinic is the Comprehensive Diagnostic Center (CDI), which has been remodeling for almost a year, so the adult emergency room is provisionally located in what used to be an ambulance parking lot, which also has not existed for a long time. 12 years old, in the Antonio María Sequera outpatient clinic in Tamaca.

“In the CDI there was a doctor and a nurse on duty, but when the wounded arrived, the doctor who was with us and the two nurses from the outpatient clinic approached to help, because there were several injured,” explained Uranga, who recalled that in The primary care center handles pediatric and obstetric emergencies, while the CDI handles adult emergencies.

Xiomara Guanipa, a resident of Tamaca, demanded from the authorities security, lighting and the prompt reopening of the CDI, because the provisional space for the adult emergency is not suitable nor does it have the necessary areas to care for patients. In addition, lighting is also poor inside the clinic.

“There is a general laziness, of the communal councils, of the deputies and councilors. There is no answer for the population. What happened on Saturday put the lives of everyone who was there at risk. This cannot happen once more,” said Guanipa.
