Professionals from Tucumán are trained in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine diploma course – Ministry of Public Health of Tucumán

The nationwide training lasts two years and one of its modules is taught entirely in the province through the Institute of Maternity and Gynecology “Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes” and the UNT.

Consulted in this regard, the consulting professor of obstetrics at the Faculty of Medicine of the UBA and specialist in Fetal Medina, Dr. Mario Palermo, said: “We are with the second court of the Maternal Fetal Medina diploma, which is national, from the University Tucuman National. Today there is a module where we will specifically talk regarding the complications of twin pregnancies, especially those that are monochorionic biamniotic, that is, they have a single placenta and two amniotic sacs. When everything is fine, it is correct, but sometimes it becomes unbalanced and one of them becomes unbalanced and it may be necessary to perform intrauterine laser surgery; like the one that is done here in the Maternity”.

In this way, the specialist said that one of the objectives of his stay in the province is to complete one of these modules. Then others follow, in Peru, in Buenos Aires, because as he pointed out, the diploma became international and there are people from other countries, especially Latin America.

“Today we do the online part and tomorrow we will be with the ultrasound scanners and students from different places, especially those who are here, to do ultrasounds together and see if we find pathologies. Those are the practices that are done on Saturdays from the diploma course, ”she added.

He also stressed that “Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes” is one of the most important maternities in the country and its evolution from 25 years ago to now is surprising.

“It is the second maternity that has an important fetal surgery service and it is public. Now patients from other places who have complications of twin pregnancy or other pathology, in our minds, the first thing that is there is the referral to Tucumán. It responds a lot to the demand we have, it is friendly, we have been working together for many years and it is practically the headquarters of the Maternal Fetal Medina diploma course in conjunction with the National University of Tucumán,” said the referent.

Finally, he pointed out that these are very complex surgeries, of great responsibility, in which a great team is involved. “To perform these surgeries, the first thing we must do is the screening screening, we want the entire country, through this diploma that has 100 students, to be trained to detect the most important pathologies and then refer them here and be able to give them an answer. My eternal thanks to the director and deputy director of the hospital who treated me with open arms, ”she concluded.
