Trey Mancini’s departure from Baltimore cuts the club’s wings

Drafted by Baltimore in 2013 and having spent his entire career in Baltimore, Trey Mancini was traded yesterday and will head to Houston.

In addition to having good statistics on the field (a batting average of .268, 41 RBI and 95 hits), he was also appreciated off the field by his teammates. Faced with the exchange, Jorge López is disappointed to lose one of the best teammates he had.

The last few seasons in Baltimore have been very tough, but the Orioles had a great July. For Mancini, who had been in Baltimore for nearly a decade, seeing the Orioles have a great month, despite being in such a strong division, was inspiring.

Mancini hoped to be part of the reconstruction, and he felt like he was already part of it. Unfortunately for him, he had to pack his bags.

110 losses in 2021, (a better record in 2020, with a shortened season), 108 losses in 2019 and 115 losses in 2018. This record is worse than that of other lower ranked teams, such as the Pirates, who have not had only one 100-game losing season in that time frame.

Mancini has been present in each of his difficult seasons. But this year, unless they lose 49 of the next 59 games, the Orioles will avoid 100 losses. In a division as strong as the American East, the fact that the Orioles manage to maintain a .505 record is exceptional. Recall that the Orioles have had a streak of 10 straight wins.

Baltimore fans don’t deserve their team to end up on the selling side this year, and the players don’t have anymore. In 2018, I had the chance to attend a game in Baltimore and I remember that, despite a very difficult season, they kept hope for a better future. It’s disappointing for them that, following a great month, their team is letting some of their stars go.

Compared to another team, when the Pirates traded Andrew McCutchen, Pittsburgh fans were very disappointed with the trade. I imagine Baltimore fans feel the same right now, especially following this month of July. It’s unfortunate for them.

  • Juan Soto: The Blue Jays have informed themselves, but they are not seriously in the running. The Padres, Cardinals and Dodgers are there.
  • If he goes to San Diego, the Padres might trade him in 2024 to seek prospects.
  • Besides, the Padres might get Soto AND Josh Bell.
  • The Yankees find the price for Pablo Lopez high.
  • Zack Greinke will end the season at KC.
