The youngster was riding on the cycle path of the bridge which spans the E17 motorway when he was mowed down, shortly following 10 p.m. The noise caused by the collision alerted a local resident, who discovered the teenager on the ground, next to his two-wheeler and a skateboard. The neighbor immediately called for help.
Shortly following, regarding ten kilometers from the scene of the accident, a motorist hit a traffic light in Saint-Nicolas. He was arrested by the police, who suspect him of having also knocked down the young cyclist.
The East Flanders public prosecutor’s office dispatched an expert and a forensic doctor to the scene of the accident.
