The Calgary Flames general manager came to meet his new acquisition Jonathan Huberdeau according to what his agent Allan Walsh confirmed on Twitter on Monday evening.

“Congratulations to Brad for coming to Montreal to meet Jonathan so they can spend time together and get to know each other,” wrote the Quebecer’s longtime agent.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the pair “wanted to meet in person” and arranged for it to happen quickly.

After losing the services of Matt Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau in the space of a few weeks, expect Treliving to be very aggressive in their attempts to keep Huberdeau with the Flames for the long term.

In the transaction sending him to Calgary, the Panthers sold the Quebec forward, Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Swallows and a 2025 1st round pick in return for Tkachuk and a conditional draft pick.

“I did not expect it, it really happened out of nowhere, Huberdeau had mentioned in videoconference Monday, a week ago. It’s a shock at first, but you have to get used to the idea quickly, because it’s part of hockey. I’m excited and can’t wait to begin my association with the Flames. »

Both Huberdeau and Weegar might become unrestricted free agents at the end of the 2022-2023 season, but the two athletes have not ruled out the possibility of a long-term agreement with their new team.

Last year, Huberdeau totaled 115 points, including 85 assists, to finish tied for 2nd in scoring behind Connor McDavid.

The 29-year-old will wear number 10 with his new roster, having sported ’11’ since his junior career.
