President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made official the expropriation of one million 93 thousand 118 square meters of four municipalities for the construction of Section 5 of the Mayan Trainaccording to the decree published in the evening edition of the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
The area of private property includes the municipalities of Benito Juarez, Puerto Morelos, Solidarity and Tulumlocated in Quintana Roo.
“A total area of 1,093,118.93 m2 (one million ninety-three thousand one hundred eighteen point ninety-three square meters) is expropriated for public use. in favor of the Federation for the execution of section 5north and south subsections of the Mayan Train Project, corresponding to thirty-six privately owned properties.”
According to the document, the expropriation includes buildings and installations that are on the premises.
From the decree, which will come into force tomorrow, the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) will take possession of the land and “will cover the amount of compensation that in terms of law must be paid to those who prove their legitimate rightin accordance with the appraisals issued by the Institute of Administration and Appraisals of National Assets”.
President decreed the Mayan Train as a work of national securitywith which he was able to resume the works for Section 5, which was suspended for three months due to the definitive suspension ordered by the First Court of Yucatan, in response to protections from divers and environmentalists integrated into the Sélvame del Tren collective.
This Monday it was reported a second definitive suspension of the works of the Mayan Train in Tranche 5, granted by a judge of the First District of the state of Yucatan, the same court that had resolved the first suspension.
With this measure, the judge stopped the works once more that take place from Cancun to Tulum.
