A video has surfaced showing men believed to be Russian soldiers castrated and then killed a Ukrainian soldier who was captured and tied up. It is unknown when and where the video was filmed, but public opinion is rising once morest Russia’s atrocious war crimes.
According to CNN on the 30th of last month, on a pro-Russian Telegram channel, a video of a soldier wearing a yellow and blue cloth, which is the color of the Ukrainian flag, being castrated with a gag in his mouth and hands tied behind his back, on a pro-Russian Telegram channel. Videos of the murderer and then dragging the body have been uploaded one following another. The car and some men’s badges in the video are marked with a capital letter ‘Z’, meaning they support the Russian invasion of Ukraine, suggesting that they are Russian soldiers.
The international community was unanimous in criticizing Russia. The UN Human Rights Investigation Team said, “I was astonished by the horrific video,” accusing it of a clear war crime if it turns out to be true. EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Rousseff Borrell added: “We condemn in the strongest terms the atrocities perpetrated by the Russian military and their proxies.”
However, some critics say that the West, in the midst of an energy crisis, is failing to stop Russia’s brutal war crimes by easing sanctions once morest Russia one following another. According to the British Financial Times (FT), the EU, which had previously suspended the issuance of marine insurance for tankers shipping Russian crude oil from June 4, eased the sanctions at the end of last month. The sanctions once morest Russia, passed by the British Parliament last month, also limited the subject of the suspension of marine insurance issuance, which will be implemented from next year, only to ships that import Russian oil to the UK, but excluded ships going to third countries.
