The 24-year-old driver was lucky. Very lucky too. This Sunday evening, around 9:45 p.m., the one who was driving a Toyota Verso fell asleep at the wheel while driving on the Noorderring (N98) in Flanders. The consequences were direct since his car deviated from its trajectory to hit head-on the trailer of a truck parked on the side.
The images testify to the violence of the shock but, miraculously, the young man survived. Seriously injured, however, he received first aid on the spot before being transported to the nearest hospital. For a long time, the emergency services feared that a child was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Indeed, a Maxi-Cosi was in the back but following verification, the driver was alone at the time of the incident.
It took nearly three hours to completely clear the road.
