Jeff Petry’s wish was granted when he (finally) was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, notably in return for Mike Matheson. The last season of the defender was complicated statistically, we will not hide at this level.
We know that his family moved to the United States during the season due to the health measures introduced in Quebec, which certainly did not help him either.
Nevertheless, from the arrival of Martin St-Louis, we saw the Jeff Petry of the good years. We have seen the good defender he has been since his arrival in the metropolis.
Note that his relationship with Dominique Ducharme did not seem to be famous either. In short, many circumstances can explain the defender’s setbacks on the ice in 2021-2022.
Nevertheless, the presence of the main interested party in the locker room seemed to be very appreciated. At least that’s what we understand when we see the video below, in which Cole Caufield jumps into the arms of Jeff Petry.

It makes you wonder if Petry’s departure will have an impact in the Montreal Canadiens locker room next year.
The guys seemed to like him in the bedroom and the young players in the organization saw him as a mentor. And you know as much as I do how important the presence of a guy like that is in a hockey room.
Especially when you think regarding the fact that the Canadiens will possibly be one of the youngest teams in the league in 2022-2023.
Other players will have to take on more leadership responsibilities. I’m thinking here especially of David Savard and Chris Wideman, two guys who, like Petry, seem to be very popular in the bedroom.
Mike Matheson, acquired in return for Petry, might he be a good leader with young people? That remains to be seen. At 28, he has the potential to be a good mentor for kids coming up, especially when you consider the fact that the CH defense will welcome young players from here very soon.
