The National Archives and Library Participate in a Conference on Traditional Music and “IFLA”

The National Archives and Library participated in the Conference of the International Council of Traditional Music, hosted by the Portuguese city of Lisbon; Where Dr. Aisha Belkheir presented a working paper in which she addressed the role of women in transmitting heritage and promoting creativity. On the other hand, a delegation from the National Archives and the Library participated in the 87th International Conference on Libraries and Information (IFLA) in the Irish capital Dublin.

Participation in the two international events stems from the National Archives and Library’s interest in consolidating its folklore and pride in the UAE’s ancient past, and its keenness to learn regarding the distinctive experiences of national libraries at the global level.

In the dialogue session entitled: “Musical Mobility in the World of the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf”, at the Conference of the International Council of Traditional Music, which was held in Lisbon, Portuguese Republic, from July 21-27, 2022, Dr. Aisha Belkhair, Research Adviser in the Archives and Library, presented The National Working Paper entitled: “The Role of Women in Transmitting the Heritage and Enhancing Creativity”, in which it tackled the overlapping of music and work songs in social and economic life, and in all stages of life and across successive generations, until the Emirati musical production became distinguished by its creativity, modernization of its music and the diversity of its styles, and this is one of the phenomena Which combines different elements to produce a legacy with a national identity that has been passed down through generations and carried by oral memory.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Balkhair represents the UAE in the International Council for Traditional Music, and has a membership in the Studies Group on Music in the Arab World emanating from the Council.

On the other hand, a delegation from the National Archives and Library participated in the 87th International Conference on Libraries and Information (IFLA) in Dublin, Ireland. Where the delegation participated in the various sessions organized on the sidelines of the conference, and the delegation, which consisted of Hamad Al Hemiri, Director of Research and Knowledge Services Department, and Riad Bin Allam from the Emirates Library in the Archives and the National Library, was briefed on the most important practices in library and information systems, especially experiences related to national libraries. The delegation visited the accompanying exhibition for companies and institutions specialized in the field of libraries.

The National Archives and the Library invited senior participants, experts and specialists to the 33rd Conference of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information (IFLA), which will be hosted by Abu Dhabi from October 31 to November 2, 2022.
