Bacterial contaminated waste water in parts of Lucerne: the authorities are calling on the affected population to boil the water. The reason for the contamination is unclear.
In the city of Lucerne, the drinking water has been contaminated by bacteria in a district. The municipal water supplier called on the affected population on Saturday evening to boil the water. The cause of the contamination was initially unclear.
An area that includes the Langensand Matthof district was affected by the pollution, according to the municipal water supplier Energie Wasser Luzern (EWL). The region is roughly south-east of Lucerne train station in the direction of Kastanienbaum on Lake Lucerne.
An information letter to the citizens stated that the bacterial contamination had been detected on Friday. The drinking water must be boiled in the affected area.
It was initially unclear whether other areas were affected. Further tests are being carried out on an ongoing basis, the statement said. The search for the cause is also ongoing.
According to its own information, the water company was in contact with the authorities of the canton of Lucerne. They are working flat out to restore the drinking water supply as quickly as possible, it said. (SDA)
