Not once more!
US President Biden (79) once more tested positive for Corona
After US President Joe Biden tested negative for the virus on Tuesday following his corona infection, an antigen test was positive once more on Saturday. Although Biden is not experiencing any symptoms, according to the White House, he is once more in isolation.
A few days following his corona infection, US President Joe Biden (79) tested positive for the virus once more. This was announced by the White House on Twitter on Saturday evening.
After Biden tested negative for the virus every day from Tuesday this week, an antigen test on Saturday morning was positive. Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, explained that such a “relapse” has been observed in rare cases in patients treated with the Covid drug Paxlovid. Developments are being monitored closely, but the drug is currently not being administered once more.
Biden had to cancel two scheduled trips
Despite the positive test, Biden is confident: “Guys, today I tested positive for Covid once more. That happens to a small minority of people. I have no symptoms but will isolate for the safety of everyone around me,” Biden wrote on Twitter on Saturday. But he’s still working and will be back soon.
The White House said two scheduled trips to Wilmington and the US state of Michigan had been canceled. The 79-year-old will isolate himself until his tests are negative once more.
According to the White House, Biden was infected with the corona virus on Thursday last week. He had spent five days in isolation and was treated with Paxlovid during that time, according to the doctor. Biden kept his appointments by video and telephone. O’Connor had described the course as mild.
On Wednesday, it was said that Biden would continue to be “particularly conscientious” to protect employees close to him. Biden had returned to the Oval Office that day. In a speech in the White House garden, Biden said: “My symptoms were mild. I recovered quickly and I’m fine.” (SDA/dzc)
