A woman threatened with beheading sees her asylum request refused

A Cameroonian woman victim of domestic violence by her polygamous ex-husband, member of the Famla sect, has had her asylum application in Canada refused.

Ossomo Ngandzigui fears for her safety if she has to return to her country of origin.

The sect to which her ex-husband belongs is renowned for the slaughter of women and its voodoo practices. In addition, Ms. Ngandzigui says she receives anonymous threatening videos.

In one of the videos obtained by TVA Nouvelles, 3 people can be seen having their heads and genitals cut off.

The lady is convinced that these are death threats from her ex-spouse and the group to which he belongs.

“He says if I set foot in Cameroon once more, I will suffer the same fate [que les femmes dans la vidéo]deplored Ms Ngandzigui.

Although Immigration Canada recognizes her husband’s violent history, his asylum application was rejected for the first time. Her former partner beat her up while she was pregnant in 2011, causing a miscarriage.

The Immigration and Refugee Board believes that “If Madame was at risk of being sacrificed because of Monsieur’s membership in the Famla, something would have happened since 2011 when their relationship ended.”

According to the Commission, the evidence of risk is insufficient. “Madame has not established that she is exposed to a serious possibility of persecution (…) nor to the risk of being subjected to torture, to a threat to her life or to unusual cruel treatment or punishment”, can -we read in a statement.

The woman will appeal her case to Federal Court. The woman is currently an employee of the Garda company.
