the essential
A rare case was detected in Perpignan. A person contracted dengue fever following being bitten by a tiger mosquito without having traveled to the areas affected by the virus during the last fortnight.
This is a case that questions the health authorities. According to’Independant, a person living in Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales, contracted the dengue virus following being bitten by a tiger mosquito. However, she had not traveled to a risk zone during the fifteen days preceding the declaration of her illness. This means that it is an autochthonous contamination.
Survey and mosquito control
Still according to our colleagues, to prevent further contamination, the ARS Occitanie and Santé Publique France have announced the establishment of an investigation in the sector of residence of the sick person, between avenue de Grande-Bretagne and the nursery park.
Agents will go door to door with local residents to give them the procedure to report if they have experienced symptoms that may be similar to dengue fever during the last three months.
As a reminder, dengue fever can cause a violent fever, muscle aches, headaches, throat aches or even breathing difficulties. At the same time, the ARS asked the mosquito control company Altopictus to take charge of the sector concerned.
