Ukraine refuses the new head of the Belgian Foreign Ministry, Aji Labib, her desire to visit the country due to the fact that the diplomat previously visited the Crimean peninsula as a journalist. This was reported by the publication “European truth”.

“Because this trip [в Крым] took place before the appointment of Lyabib as a minister, and as part of her then work [журналистом], the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will refrain from any comments, ”Water Pools, spokesman for the Belgian Foreign Ministry, commented on the situation. His quote is quoted by European Truth.

According to the author of the article Sergey Sidorenko, in 2021 Lyabib, being a journalist, visited the Global Values festival in Sevastopol. The Ukrainian side is of the opinion that the diplomat entered the Crimean peninsula “by illegal means” and now “must apologize to Kyiv for this.”

The publication emphasizes the minister’s unacceptable position for Ukraine on the issue of territorial belonging of Crimea. “On her return, she also resorted to statements that cast doubt on the belonging of Crimea to Ukraine,” the author of the article emphasized. He also pointed out that the journalist avoided a direct question regarding which country the peninsula belongs to.

In her defense, Lyabib called the trip “part of her journalistic activities.” However, according to the observer, this only aggravated the situation and now the Ukrainian authorities should fine the Belgian diplomat and also ban entry into the country for three years. Otherwise, this situation “will set a dangerous precedent,” the author added.
