Zug’s players logically found themselves in the spotlight during the evening of the Swiss Ice Hockey Awards. Jan Kovar is thus the MVP of the play-offs, Leonardo Genoni having been named best goalkeeper of the season. Rapperswil-Jona forward Roman Cervenka was voted MVP of the regular season.
Jan Kovar was the best scorer in the play-offs, which saw Zug snatch their second consecutive national title at the expense of the Zurich Lions (4-3 in the series). The Czech striker, who had received the two MVP trophies in 2021, accumulated 21 points in 15 matches during the final series.
Crowned for the seventh time in seven appearances in the play-off final, his teammate Leonardo Genoni was voted best goalkeeper for the sixth time in total, the third in a row. Another “serial winner”, the eternal Andres Ambühl is also named the most popular player for the sixth time.
A trophy for a Romand
The trophy rewarding the best player of the regular season therefore escaped EV Zug. He returns to the Czech Roman Cervenka, top scorer in the preliminary phase with 64 points in 52 matches. His Lakers teammate, Valais defender Nathan Vouardoux, is the revelation of the year.
The other winners of this evening, organized at the Kursaal in Bern, are the striker of the Swiss team Alina Müller (Player of the Year) and the defender of the Predators Roman Josi (Hockey Award). A Special Award also rewards referee Anna Wiegand, present at the 2022 Olympics following leading the final of the 2021 Worlds.
