watchOS 9: Health Canada gives green light to atrial fibrillation history

History of atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the new health features of watchOS 9, but to benefit from it Apple must first obtain the green light from the medical authorities of each country. The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its approval, and since here this is also the case for Health Canada.

The certification concerns both the Apple Watch and the iPhone, so there is a good chance that FA history will be activated in Canada as soon as the final version of watchOS 9 is launched in September. At present, it is still impossible to activate it, we are entitled to a message announcing that the function is not available in the region.

This history goes a step further than atrial fibrillation notifications. As its name suggests, this feature will keep a log of different AF episodes that patients can share with their doctor. Before producing a history, the Apple Watch must detect an AF; then, the user will receive a weekly notification on the percentage of time that fibrillation events have occurred, with a comparison with the previous week.
