Women’s Tour de France: Marianne Vos wins and consolidates her yellow jersey

Wearing the yellow jersey, Marianne Vos celebrated her second success in the Women’s Tour de France in Rosheim. The Dutchwoman won the 6th stage to extend her lead to 30” over her runners-up Silvia Persico and Katarzyna Niewiadoma overall.

The insatiable Marianne Vos has signed a 5th podium in six finishes since the start of this Tour. She settled in the sprint a group of 39 riders which did not include the best sprinter in the peloton Lorena Wiebes, delayed in a fall regarding twenty kilometers from the finish.

Teammate of the ambitious Katarzyna Niewiadoma, Elise Chabbey is the only Swiss to have reached the finish in the 1st peloton. The Genevan (21st) thus recovered 10th place overall which she occupied before falling at the end of the stage on Thursday. She is 2’34” behind Marianne Vos before the decisive weekend in the Vosges.

A decisive weekend

The 7th stage will mark the 1st and most copious meeting in the mountains with 3000 meters of elevation gain between Sélestat and Le Markstein.

Three climbs are on the program: the Petit Ballon (9.3 km at 8.1% average gradient), the Col du Platzerwasel (7.1 km at 8.3%) and the Grand Ballon (13.5 km at 6 .7%), the longest climb offered this year, the summit of which is located 7km from the line.
