“We want to avoid the worst”

This is very sad news that the inhabitants of the region have learned. The ‘Peeters’ bakery had just opened on Monday following its annual holiday, but announced on social media on Tuesday that it was filing for bankruptcy. Some did not believe it was so popular in Kontich, in the province of Antwerp.

Werner and his wife Sandra explain their decision to our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad. “The pressure has become too great. In the past year alone, energy prices have increased three to four times. Commodity prices are also exploding. We really don’t earn anything anymore. You find yourself in a vicious circle,” they lament.

The baking couple adds that “in the long run, it also starts to weigh on a person mentally, so much so that health starts to suffer. That’s why we didn’t want to let this drag on any longer and avoid the worst”.

Finally, they would like to thank their loyal customers, who often lined up to enter their bakery. “We would like to thank all our customers for their trust during all these years. It’s pretty good, but it’s also very painful to read all these reactions and statements of support. I did it with heart and soul. We will see what the future holds for us”.
