‘No male child was born’; Daughters ‘bought’ punishment for father who burnt mother – Murder

New Delhi ∙ Two daughters ‘bought’ a life sentence for the father who burnt his mother for not giving birth to a boy through a six-year legal battle. Manoj Bansal (48), a native of Uttar Pradesh, was convicted by a court in Bulandshahr for the murder of his wife Anu Bansal.

On June 14, 2016, Manoj and his gang burned Anu alive. They were admitted to the hospital with severe burns but succumbed to death on June 20.

Daughters Tania Bansal (18) and Latika Bansal (20) responded that they were happy that their father was able to get the punishment following six years of legal battle. Anu’s mother filed a case once morest Manoj. Tania and Latika had written to the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav demanding justice in the case.

The father killed the mother saying that she did not give birth to a boy. Mother brought us up very hard. Yet the father burned the mother alive. To us he is just a devil. Although it took six years of legal battle, his conviction brings some relief. We were locked in the room while my father and others were burning my mother. We are witnesses to their killing of mother” – Tania and Latika said.

Manoj Bansal married Anu in 2000. After giving birth to two daughters, Anu Bansal became pregnant five more times, hoping for a boy. When it was found that she was a girl during the sex determination test, she performed five abortions. It is also said that Anu was constantly abused and beaten up by Manoj and his family for not giving birth to a boy.
