SA Parc de l’Alliance, which operates the business park of the same name in Braine-l’Alleud, has obtained an interim order requiring that travelers who have settled illegally on its property since Sunday evening, leave the premises. The municipality of Braine-l’Alleud, which considered that this situation represented a danger to public safety, had joined the procedure.
A hundred caravans and vehicles are installed without permission on the lawns of the business park. The occupants connected their caravans to the electrical cabins, to the lighting poles and to the fire hydrants. The order issued by the president acting as the court of first instance gives them 24 hours to leave the premises, under penalty of a penalty of 250 euros per day of occupation and per person.
We had to act
“The place is not suitable for hosting in sanitary conditions. And the Travelers have settled by force. They have ripped open the electrical cabins, making the site terribly dangerous. They have ripped open the fire hydrants to connect, in an anarchic way, to the pipes. Which means that there is a drop in pressure. If tomorrow, there were to be a concern for safety at the level of the fire services, the mouths are inoperative and the flow is likely to be weakened. And more and more residents are complaining regarding the noise. We had to act accordingly”explains the mayor of Braine-l’Alleud Vincent Scourneau.
Police reinforcements planned if necessary
The ordinance was served on Thursday followingnoon to the Travelers, and the mayor met representatives of the camp on the spot. He informed them of his determination to have the court order executed within the set deadline. If necessary, substantial police reinforcements are planned to enforce the court decision, say the local authorities.
The decision notes in particular that the installations carried out without authorization on the site of the business park represent a real danger for travelers and users of the public highway, and also points to a risk of fire in the midst of drought, while the fire hydrants are squatted and therefore rendered unusable.
