German driver Sebastian Vettel, who won four times the Formula One world title, is retiring. Vettel, 35, said he will retire from Formula One at the end of the season.
Vettel won the world championship four times in a row from 2010 to 2013. He is third in the world standings with 53 Grand Prix wins. Lewis Hamilton (103 wins) and Michael Schumacher (91) are in first and second place respectively.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with so many great people in Formula One over the past 15 years and there are too many to mention and thank,” Vettel said in an Instagram post. “I have been the driver of Aston Martin for the last two years and although our results have not been as good as expected, we have put together everything a team needs to compete at the highest level,” he said.
“The decision to retire has been very difficult for me and I have spent a lot of time thinking regarding it and as a father I want to spend more time with my family,” he wrote on Instagram.
