North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un threatens nuclear war
North Korea has conducted numerous weapons tests since the beginning of the year, including one with an ICBM. Now dictator Kim Jong Un is threatening to use nuclear weapons.
North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un (38) has threatened the use of nuclear weapons in the event of a possible military conflict with the USA and South Korea.
“Our armed forces are thoroughly prepared to respond to any crisis,” Kim was quoted as saying by state media on Thursday. At the same time, the nuclear deterrent forces might be mobilized “precisely and quickly” in accordance with their mandate.
Ahead of the start of joint summer military drills by US-South Korean forces in August, Kim once more sharpened his tone once morest both countries. North Korea is fully prepared for any military confrontation with the US, Kim was quoted as saying.
Celebrating Victory Day
South Korea faces annihilation if it makes “dangerous attempts” once morest his country, Kim said. He was referring to plans by the Seoul government to revive a pre-emptive strike system in response to North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile program.
Kim’s comments come from a speech Wednesday to veterans in Pyongyang marking the 69th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice Treaty ending the Korean War (1950-53). The day is celebrated in authoritarian North Korea as “Victory Day”.
USA conducts hostile politics
Kim’s speech comes at a time of growing uncertainty in the region. North Korea has already tested nuclear-capable missiles several times this year, thereby violating existing UN resolutions. Because of its nuclear program, Pyongyang is subject to tough international sanctions. North Korea, in turn, accuses the United States of hostile policies.
Together with its ally, the USA, South Korea intends to resume field exercises during joint military maneuvers this year. In recent years, both countries had reduced the maneuvers for diplomatic reasons. (SDA/jmh)
