After signing a historic agreement with Qualcomm, Samsung is revealing more regarding the future of the internally developed Exynos chips.
If Samsung should equip all its future Galaxy products with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, what future can we imagine for the Samsung Exynos chips. Until now, Samsung has always designed chips in-house, sometimes competing with Snapdragons on its own devices.
To the picture d’Applethe Exynos chips allow Samsung to have a certain independence from Qualcomm which other manufacturers cannot boast of in the universe Android.
To clarify the future of its Exynos chips, Samsung answered questions from investors and the press.
Falling back to better conquer
Samsung’s response is first of all a firm denial once morest the idea of closing the Exynos division. Work on its own SoCs will therefore continue.
Samsung Q&A: rumors of folding the Exynos biz are “completely not true.” They are reviewing SoC biz model w/focus on gaming mid/LT competitiveness, strengthen competitiveness of next gen mobile Exynos, expand outside of phones to wearables, PCs, etc

IDC analyst Bryan Ma was able to collect Samsung’s responses. The firm explains that it wants to take the time to think regarding it to gain competitiveness in the medium and long term. The idea is to extend the Exynos brand to new markets beyond the smartphone.
The response specifically mentions the smartwatch and PC markets. These are also new markets into which Apple has expanded following convincing the industry with its Apple A chips. Today ARM PCs under Windows run exclusively on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. We know, however, to what extent Samsung is one of Microsoft’s privileged partners. One can easily imagine a future version of Windows open to Exynos fleas.
Samsung’s strategy seems to be good news for the consumer. First, the historic agreement should allow him to take advantage of smartphones with the best chips of the moment, at Qualcomm. In the longer term, however, it is important that Samsung does not throw in the towel: Qualcomm needs competitors in the ARM market.
