Minister Henry under police protection after receiving threats: “I do not live well to be threatened in relation to decisions to be made”

However, if the policies which must be carried out soon at the Walloon level can “arouse opposition and reactions”, “it is also not a question of allowing oneself to be prevented from working”said the Minister. “It is clear that it is not pleasant to be threatened”, added the minister. “It’s not pleasant to be restricted in one’s freedom of movement and functioning”he continued. “It is not acceptable that certain people, on the basis of threats, prevent democratic functioning and the exercise of public functions”, said Minister Henry. “I don’t live it well, that’s not how I see political action and democratic debate”noted the Minister.

The minister called for us to find “a form of serenity in the public debate”, noting “a disintegration of the public debate”. “It is a great threat to democracy because we must be able to have debates, express ourselves, defend ideas and take decisions”said Philippe Henry.

“Democracy cannot allow behavior to be dictated by people who would be threatening, who do not respect the rules of democratic debate”he added.

Asked regarding the consequences that the threats received might have on his political action, “It would be a serious failure if we left politics for that reason”, replied the minister.
