Both the number and amount of companies engaged in trade last year reached all-time highs.
According to the ‘Corporate Trade Activity Statistics for 2021’ released by the Korea Customs Service today (27th), the amount of trade last year was $1.2268 trillion, an increase of $269.2 billion or 28.1% from a year ago.
In addition, the number of companies engaged in trade was 253,058, an increase of 1030, or 4.1%, from a year earlier.
Among them, there were 95,640 exporting companies, down 2,500 from a year ago, and 212,302 importing companies, an increase of 1594.
The number of companies that newly started trading last year was 67,236, an increase of 2,844, or 4.4%, from a year earlier.
Conversely, the number of companies withdrawn from the market was 57,206, down 1,023 or 1.8% from a year ago.
Among the top 10 items with the highest number of active companies, the export of other textiles, including masks, had the highest entry rate (48.7%) and exit rate (64.4%).
The survival rate of companies that entered 2020 and survived for one year was 46.7% for exporting companies and 50.9% for importing companies.
In addition, the number of growth companies, which refers to companies whose export growth rate was higher than the overall growth rate for the past three consecutive years, was 4,111 last year, down 21.7% from a year ago.
