Acted with Fahadh with the conviction that it is my son who stands: Jaya Kurup
Fahadh Faasil starrer Malayankunju is continuing its run in theaters with great response. The film showed the horror of the landslide and gave the audience a different viewing experience. Jaya Kurup, a native of Idukki, played Shanthamma, the mother of hero Anikuttan in the film.
Santhamma in Malayankunj was a full-length character following small roles in theater artist Jayak Jallikattu and Sajan’s Bakery. In an interview to DoolNews, Jaya shared her experiences of acting with Fahadh in the film.
‘Fahad was very helpful. His mind to say that what we are doing is good is the biggest. It was often action and reaction. It seems that whatever he has given is worth giving back.
There is no need to talk regarding Fahad’s eyes. I acted with the conviction that my son was standing. The way my son is treated is how I felt when I saw Fahad. Everyone on the set was supportive. Mahesh sir and all the others helped,’ said Jaya.
‘When I saw the casting call, I sent the application through a film society called Darshana in Kattappana. Many plays including Unni Ar’s off day play were performed for Darshan.
He started acting at the age of 17. He is not a person who came to the theater with a lot of desire. Learned Sanskrit. Bandhu was in a ballet committee. He went to act as Sri Krishna and Saraswati in it. That’s how I got interested in drama.
There is six months of work in drama. At first there was no support from home. Fight and stop. Started doing professional plays from 97. The pleasure of acting is something else. Probably the heroine. Sometimes two characters have to be played. Both older and younger have been done in the same play. Husband Narayana Kurup is also a theater artist,’ said Jaya.
Jaya’s new projects are Basil Joseph’s Pal Thu Janvar, Ullozhuk starring Parvathy Thiruvoth, Urvashi and Alencier.
