British actor David Warner, who starred in Hollywood blockbuster Titanic, has died.
British media such as the BBC reported on Monday, citing Warner’s family, that he died of a cancer-related illness a few days before his 81st birthday.
“We, his family and friends, will miss him dearly and will remember him as a kind, generous and compassionate man, partner and father whose legacy of extraordinary work has touched the lives of so many over the years,” it said.

Warner played henchman Spicer Lovejoy in Titanic (1997). Almost 20 years earlier he was part of the crew of another film regarding one of the most famous shipwrecks in history: “SOS Titanic” (1979). Born in Manchester in 1941, he became known for supporting roles in the horror film “The Omen” (1976) and in the Disney film “Tron”. Warner won an Emmy for his role in the TV miniseries “Masada,” starring Peter O’Toole. He was also successful as a theater actor.
The actor died Sunday at Denville Hall, a nursing home for people from the entertainment industry, the family said. He leaves behind his partner and a son.
