Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov revealed the ultimate goal of the war that Moscow has been waging once morest Ukraine, since the twenty-fourth of last February.

Lavrov said that the Russian government’s ultimate goal in the war in Ukraine is to rid the Ukrainian people of the unacceptable regime that rules their country, referring to the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Lavrov added, according to a report published by the US Associated Press, that Ukraine and its Western allies are seeking to spread misleading propaganda once morest Russia, as they seek to make Kyiv the eternal enemy of Moscow.

Speaking to delegates at the Arab League in Cairo on Sunday evening, the Russian Foreign Minister was quoted as saying: “We are determined to liberate the citizens of eastern Ukraine from the burden of this totally unacceptable regime. We are striving hard to help all Ukrainians get rid of this anti-people and anti-historical regime.”

The US news agency indicated that Lavrov’s statements come following warnings issued by the chief Russian diplomat that Moscow seeks to control larger areas of eastern Ukraine, including the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in the south, and will make gains in other regions.

She said that Lavrov’s statements contradict the Russian line declared since the beginning of the war, which confirmed with the beginning of the special military operation that Moscow does not want to overthrow Zelensky’s government.

Lavrov stressed that the West does not want Ukraine to negotiate with Russia to work to stop the war, before Russia loses on the battlefield, according to the statements quoted by him.

Lavrov’s statements come a few days following Russia and Ukraine signed the “Istanbul Agreement”, which provides for the resumption of exports of grain and fertilizers, which has faced many obstacles since the beginning of the war, and caused a global food crisis.
