Peugeot is one of the important brands that has existed for a long time in the Egyptian market, and has proven its presence through models that have succeeded in spreading, especially the 504, which has served as a taxi for many years.
Over the years, the French brand succeeded in developing itself and modernizing its product range, attracting a larger number of customers in the Egyptian market.
But what many people do not know is that the history of the French Peugeot name dates back to 1810, when it was offering many products made of steel before entering the automobile world, including manual equipment such as hammers, coffee grinders and pepper mills, and then it went to produce bicycles.
Armand Peugeot, one of the senior members of the company’s royal family, showed interest in vehicles during the late pre-last century, when the brand’s first bikes appeared in 1882, and following several years he collaborated with Gottlieb Daimler, founder of Daimle, to launch four copies of the first Peugeot steam-powered car in 1889.
The car relied on three wheels and the steam system put a huge weight on it in addition to its large size. Then, in 1890, another model appeared that works through internal combustion with gasoline and relies on four wheels. It was the first French manufacturer to equip its cars with rubber tires.
The moving lion emblem was chosen to express speed, strength and flexibility while the cars had not yet reached mass production, and by 1892 had been produced 29 copies, production gradually increased to 300 of the 1200 vehicles sold in France in 1899.
In 1896, Peugeot was able to manufacture its first internal combustion engine that produced 8 horsepower, which prompted it to separate from Daimler, Armand Peugeot also wanted to separate the car network from the rest of the family business while the company re-integrated in 1910.
Peugeot expanded to enter the world of motorcycles in 1901 and until 1903 Cat Peugeot produces half of the cars sold in France, offering multiple models ranging in power from 5 hp to 12 hp.
Peugeot has also led the way in motorsports, as a French car won its first race in history, finishing in 3 minutes 30 seconds and generating 3 horsepower.
How Peugeot participated in the French Grand Prix and won in 1913 and 1915, the races were interrupted for a period due to the First World War and then returned in 1919 with the Targa Florio, in which Peugeot won a car that carried a 2500 cc engine and a total distance of more than 200,000 km.
Peugeot’s activities in the manufacture of household appliances and household equipment continued through Peugeot Saveurs, of which the Peugeot family remains the largest shareholder.
