Al-Marsad newspaper: A diabetes drug showed remarkable effectiveness in helping non-diabetics lose weight within 18 months.
Lose 20% of their weight
Researchers from Yale University led research on tirzepatide, and found that the injection can help an overweight person lose regarding 20% of their weight when taken weekly in addition to regular diet and exercise.
The researchers, who published their findings Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine, collected data from 2,539 people over a 72-week period for their study, according to the Express.
The researchers found that those who got the smallest doses lost an average of 15 percent of their body weight – regarding five times as successful as diet and exercise alone.
Other benefits of the drug
While the returns were decreasing, higher doses were shown to be successful in improving weight loss.
“Weight loss with tirzepatide was associated with greater improvements with respect to all measured cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors, including waist circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting insulin, lipids and aspartate aminotransferase levels,” they added.
The results suggest that 15 mg per week of an injection of diabetes medication will work best for weight loss.
