Emirates Global Aluminium has welcomed 30 Emirati high school and university students to gain work experience through its annual summer internship program, enhancing their career prospects and encouraging them to pursue opportunities in the growing industrial economy of the United Arab Emirates.
This year’s freshman group consists of high school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 and college students who have completed their first year of university studies in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
Females represent half of the participants in the program, which reflects the high percentage of women studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects in the country’s universities, in addition to EGA’s keenness to enhance the role of women throughout the company. Each student will spend regarding a month working within the two company sites. Emirates Global Aluminium in Jebel Ali in Dubai or Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, under the supervision of trainers from the company.
Eman Al Qassim, Executive Vice President of Human Resources at Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “At Emirates Global Aluminium, as a leading industrial company in the UAE, we are keen to encourage talented youth to engage in jobs within the industrial sector, especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This EGA program provides an opportunity to hone professional skills and gain experience regarding the role these jobs play in the country’s economy. We also look forward to these young people joining EGA or other industrial companies permanently in the future, and contributing to achieving the industrial growth strategy “the 300 billion project” for the United Arab Emirates.
Since its launch in 2002, more than 600 Emirati students have participated in the EGA Summer Internship Program.
In addition to the summer internship programme, EGA employees regularly communicate with students across the UAE to motivate them to pursue STEM fields and learn regarding the importance of industry in the UAE economy.
The “Emirates Global Aluminium” program includes the visit of young engineers from the company to universities, while the “Future Engineering” program organizes visits to secondary schools in cooperation with the Emirates Foundation for School Education.
